Tussendoor ook genoten van Carpenter – Sea to Sky (xroldx! Poppy orgcore met een beetje oude Strike Anywhere) en de nieuwe acoestische plaat van The Riot Before.atlas losing grip – state of unrest
I liked watching the horizon, but this album is so much better. Nice listen before skating!
Tim van Tol – what it takesSaw a documentary on Nevermind last weekend + a bit of the Paradiso gig, so I’m back into Nirvana again. Still of the most important bands of my generation I think (though I still don’t like In Utero that much…)
played today:
Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit (single) 2x
Nirvana – Nevermind
H2O – California 7″ 2x
Less Than Jake – GNV FLA
Bloodhound Gang – Use Your Fingers
Anthrax – State of Euphoria
Nirvana – Bleach
REM – Automatic for the Peoplecoming up:
Anthrax – Among The Living
Bullet Treatment – MistakeWhy don’t you like In Utero as much? Is it the songs? Or the production? Or?
It’s my favorite album and I think it’s Nirvana’s best too. Not the most important one, or the most popular, and less hits, but musically the most interesting. And the production is amazing.
I’ve been listening to a 2 hour interview Krist, Dave & Butch (producer Nevermind) did about Nevermind. Pretty interesting. They mention “Song In D”, and apparently the band has no idea what Butch is talking about. So I kinda start to doubt that song even exists at all.
It just won’t ‘stick’ as much as Nevermind did, I will give it some spins again this week.
Was the interview the one VPRO did recently? Saw a few bits of that, was super cool to hear them!
Totally get that. That’s what I meant with less ‘hits’. Less ‘easy’ (stuck in your head for days) songs.
No it’s a different interview, that interview with the VPRO is great too indeed. Krist got really old ;)
I saw a documentary on Canvas this weekend. It was all about Nevermind. Nicely done. I enjoy that kind of documentaries. Even when it’s about albums I don’t really like…
How can you not like Nevermind ;-)
Well, I tried to like that album, but I just don’t… I’m not into the whole grunge scene. Although nowadays I do like a couple of albums like Ten (Pearl Jam) and Badmotorfinger & Superunknown (Soundgarden) most of the grunge scene is not my cup of tea.
Nevermind is a pop album by a punk band though ;) That whole grunge label is pretty ridiculous. It did wonders for the marketing though haha.
Putting Nevermind, Ten and Badmotorfinger under 1 genre always seemed kinda weird.
Todays playlist:
Metallica – Garage Inc.
Megadeth – Countdown to Extinction
Nirvana – In Utero (yes Pim, I am giving it the spins I promissed haha)Of course the only REALLY essential album from the whole grunge era is Alice in Chains’ Dirt. ;)
Playlist:
Cobra Skulls – Agitations (I’m disappointed so far)
Nothington – Borrowed Time (I’m HUGELY disaspointed so far)
Oh, Sleeper – Children of Fire (Still disappointed but it’s getting better)This year sucks when it comes to new records. All bands whose previous records I adored totally disappointed me with their new efforts… This also includes the Banquets full length and the new Dead and Divine record.
@Onno: Nice one!
@Rik:
Alice In Chains is great. On that I can agree with you ;)
Make Do And Mend is from this year right?
The Nirvana reissues.
Screaming Trees – Last Words
All On Black (if it comes out this year)
Supertouch – Lost My WayI’m pretty glad with what this year brought us so far
Faith – Subject to Change
Citizen’s Arrest – light in the darkness
Birds In Row – Cottbus LP
7 Seconds – Praise
Warzone – Don’t forget the struggle…
Diamond – DMND 7”
Police & Thieves/Remission split 7”@Pim I started listening to that MDAM record at the end of 2010, when it originally came out, so it doesn’t really count. But it’s probably still the best record of 2011, haha.
AIC’s Dirt is awesome, Them Bones is one of the hardest opening songs ever. Great, will have to give that some spins again soon.
Today’s playlist:
Guns n’ Roses – Use Your Illussion I (a few songs in the car)
Public Enemy
blink-182 – Neighborhoods
Sweet Empire – This Season Needs Torches
Nirvana – Muddy Banks / In Utero
blink-182 – Neighborhoods
The Bronx – The Bronx I
Metallica – Metallica
H2O – Nothing To ProveReally stoked for the new Crazy Arm record. Have been playing their first one (born to ruin) again for the last week. One of the best bands outta europe.
Sounds interesting. Country meets punkrock.
Have been listening to the Presidents Of The United States Of America in the car today.
Download Born To Ruin, put on your headphones and enjoy. GREAT RECORD!
They will be touring with Against Me! this fall (013, i think) and will also do some smaller shows in (Nijmegen, Den Haag) on their own.
I’ve been listening to Hot Water Music in the car today. I like their new stuff better than their old stuff, but I just put their discography (or at least, the part I have) on shuffle.
Starting with the new blink-182, third spin now and I still feel like they were better when they just played punkrock…
onno, I know what you mean. I’m still having mixed feelings about the new record.. but I don’t want to judge it too fast.
the self titled was very good though!I liked some songs of the self titled a lot, but in my opinion there were also a lot of ‘fillers’. Overall that record, and the first 3 spins of the new one, don’t give me the feeling Dude Ranch (+ the 2 after that) did!
Enema Of The State is my ‘go-to-record’.
