I always love to read negative reviews before I go see a movie, only lowers my expectations and makes the chance of actually enjoying it higher haha ;)
Weeds is cool, nowhere near my favorite shows, but I haven’t missed an episode (including the second episode) ;)

Went to see the Tim Burton expo in Paris. Despite a long que to get in and it was pretty crowded, I enjoyed it a lot.
Well worth the visit if you are in the neighbourhood.Nice, I don’t think I’ll be able to go there, but I’m a sucker for Burton.
Pretty stoked to see the new Dark Knight movie too.
Hey Pim, I started watching the third episode yesterday, but then one of the kids came walking down the stairs ;-)
I really like how fast the Newsroom is, although it makes me not really understand everything sometimes hahaAlso finished the 2nd season of Sons of Anarchy, watched two seasons in two weeks and I am already in episode 5 of season 3. Great show!

Spiderman tonight.
Watched the 2nd episode of the new season of Weeds and it was a pretty big snooze fest. The first episode was pretty awesome it had a bit of the feeling of the first few seasons, but in this episode nothing happened.
I thought the second season of SOA was pretty good, can’t really tell if it was better than the 1st (and stopped watching Breaking Bad after the first 10 minutes haha)
I also thought the 1st episode of Weeds was great, let’s hope it comes back!

The Spiderman movie is pretty bad. I don’t see the point of revisiting the story if you’re gonna do a worse movie than Sam Raimi’s. I hate that the Lizard looks like shit compared to the comic book. I would have hated the movie if I didn’t have a crush on Emma Stone…While I do agree it’s way too soon to do a reboot and I have to re-watch the Sam Raimi’s movies, I actually think I lean towards preferring this reboot. Spiderman is cool (yet still clumsy) and there were lots of funny moments. And for someone reason I had a feeling this was closer to my memories of Spiderman than the previous ones. Also great to see him not shooting web from his body (like in the previous films) but from those devices he build. All in all I had a great time at the cinema and I really don’t agree with the naysayers. But like I said, need to rewatch the ‘old’ ones to check if I really prefer this version. Either way I’m looking forward to the next one in these series.
And I can’t wait for The Dark Knight Rises. Saw another trailer today, with new parts… Shit looks awesome.
That Batman movie is gonna be so ill !!!
Started watching DVD 2 of season 1 of Supernatural and I think it’s pretty awesome. Didn’t really know what to expect. There are a few cliches, but every episode seems like a story for a full length movie (and some are). Really seems like an expensive and well made series thusfar.
I stopped watching that after a couple of episodes, didn’t think it was that great. Maybe I should give it another chance.
Rik, my founded footage / home video movies comerade, did you see Skew? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1808477/ – Not great, maybe not even good. But for some reason I kept watching. The ending got me wondering, but if you decide to watch it, read this AFTER you’ve seen it: http://coolawesomemovies.com/director-seve-schelenz-explains-skew/
This week I saw Escape From Alcatraz again. Is there any actor with as much cool as Clint Eastwood? Great movie btw, classic!
I saw Puss in boots last wednesday. It’s way better than the last Shrek movie I’ve seen (the third).
Turned that one (Puss In Boots) off halfway through. Wasn’t feeling it at all ;)
In other news, upcoming Marvel movies:
Iron Man 3: May 3, 2013 – looking forward to this one
Thor – The Dark World: November 8, 2013 – if it’s not 300% better than the previous one I probably skip it
Captain America – The Winter Soldier: April 4, 2014 – I liked the previous one, so curious to see what’s this like
Guardians of the Galaxy: August 1, 2014 – never read this, comic experts, is this any good?
(not announced, but probably coming in 2014/15) Avengers 2 – LOVED the first one. Especially Hulk was great. Looking forward to this next one.finished Rome s2 this weekend. Loved season 1, but season 2 is a bit too fast. Seems they wanted to get 10 seasons in 1 episode or something like that. So it was a bit less than season 1. Still loved it though…
Watched The Lost Room – part 1 and 2…glad I tried to find it after some failed attempts.
Too bad it’s only 6 episodes (or 3 as IMDB states). The Lost Room, been ages since I’ve seen that one.
Currently watching the new Breaking Bad episode. Couldn’t wait…
Up next: The Newsroom, Weeds & The Ricky Gervais show;)
I want to watch the new Kevin Smith TV show “Spoilers”, you can stream it on their website but it’s not available outside of the U.S
Me too! Let me know if you do manage to get your hands on it ;) I’ll do the same.
The Newsroom might just be my new favorite show. Really great.
I really hoped for a 2 hour Breaking Bad episode, but hey, can’t have it all. Glad the story continues ;)
Some Guy Who Kills People
The heartwarming story of a depressed ex-mental patient who crawls out of his shell after meeting his estranged 11 year old daughter. Oh yeah, he’s also killing the people who made his life miserable in the past (in silly, cartoony ways). I love off-beat, quirky black comedy’s like this, especially when they have a whole lot of heart. That guy who played the mayor in Spin City plays a sherriff here and he’s hilarious. The bit surrounding a severed head had me in stitches. The first hour the term ‘socially awkward’ is raised to a whole new level, haha. After that it kind of goes downhill, the conclusion did not do much for me, but still I enjoyed this a whole lot. Wholeheartedly recommended.
finished season 3 of Sons of Anarchy, did not really feel the ‘IRA vibe’, but season 4 is great again!
Also tried 1 episode of Charlie Sheen’s Anger Management, boy that was bad…
21 Jump street was great. Had a good laugh during that movie. One of my top movies for this year.
21 Jump Street was better than I expected, but I wouldn’t say it’s one of the top movies this year. But to each his own of course!
21 Jump Street had me laughing throughout the whole thing, i’m a sucker for over the top stupid comedies.
The Newsroom is fine but i’m not too fond of it, the whole preachy aspect is really forced and obnoxious at times…it looks like a serious version of The Daily Show

Other than that I’m watching the first season of Workaholics, I wasn’t thrilled by the first two episodes, but now I’m into it. I’m still a bit annoyed by the “frat bros” mentality though.
.And it just keeps getting better and better. If i remember right the 3rd episode is the office camp out which is just PERFECT and hilarious. “catherine zeta-jooooones, she dips beneath lasers, ho ho hooo”
Really one of the funniest new shows that came out these last few years along with The League, Louie, Community and Wilfred (even though that one’s a remake of an australian show).Just watched Brake. Didn’t read anything about it and didn’t expect much. Wasn’t great, but wasn’t bad either. It’s pretty much the same concept as Buried though. So if you liked that one, you might like this one. Or not ;)
I saw Brave in the cinema yesterday, the new Pixar movie. Very entertaining, the animation is of extremely high quality (that girls hair!) and the vocal cast is very good. Also, the 3D, while still pointless, wasn’t completely annoying. Unfortunately the story is somewhat shallow and the morals are hammered home a bit TOO Disney. So below par for a Pixar film, but still worth a whatch.
Best thing was the ParaNorman trailer befor the movie. That film looks all kinds of awesome.
Finished season 4 of Sons of Anarchy, what a great show that is. Also watched Moon (2009), about a guy on the moon that finds some disturbing truths about himself. Great, minimalistic movie, must-watch!

Well…it really embodies the main problem of Aaron Sorkin’s writing (this and the overly long scripts that make the actor have to speak ultra fast) : he’s a liberal talking to liberals about his liberal views on issues liberals care about.
In short, he’s preaching to the choir, which i believe to be fertile.
Furthermore, it gets pretty despicable when they get started on the tea party and its members with a huge condescending approach (i.e all the tea party characters in the show are fucking dumb) which could be summarized as something along the line of “hey look, they don’t share our views, silly. Let me show you how stupid they are”.
Just because people are stupid doesn’t mean you can (and have to) tell them.
The whole “elite” thing is the run of the mill critic of dems by conservatives and this show is really not helping in any way, on the contrary it’s only antagonizing people even more.
I guess i’m really frustrated by the fact that they keep stumbling upon the koch brothers which are some pretty evil bad guys (and the real life version of whatever “new world order” or “illuminatis” because keep fantasizing about) without really diving into it and committing to exposing their scheems…which would have made for a whole better show
You could reply that “it’s only entertainment” but this tv show really has a big political bias and a goal to make people side to their opinion.
No matter how many times they’ll make will mc avoy say he’s a republican or the “obama fucked up on this last year” on last week’s episode, no one is fooled by those cheap excuses.
And seriously…is another “impossible office romance” really necessary? I mean, come onon another subject, i watched a shitload of movies this week-end:
- Soldiers Of Fortune : Bunch of billionnaires pay to be part of a military operation, obviously shit goes wrong. Don’t watch it, i only watched it to see something stupid and easily followable while drunk, it’s a really cheap and bad action flick (don’t get fooled by the cast)…i’m pretty sure it was only a money laundering operation from the russian mob
- Batman Begins & The Dark Knight : it must have been the 20th time i saw TDK, just prepping for tomorrow night of The Dark Knight Rises.
- Forrest Gump : i think i only saw this movie once when i was a teenager. I didn’t really remember it as being so good and soooo fucking bleak when it comes to jenny’s story. Great movie
- The Green Mile : well, after having been pretty amazed by tom hanks’ performance in forrest gump i wanted to watch another “classic” of his…well even though it’s undeniably a good movie I got pretty bored. It really don’t get how you can make an almost 3 hours movie THAT uneventful (especially after having watched TDK which is PACKED with storylines and plots and twists). The percy and bill characters are bad men and the rest of the cast or good men, no substance and layers whatsoever in those characters. I gotta admit to a big negative bias towards Stephen King except for the adaptations of The Shining and The Shawshank Redemtion
- Philadelphia : another widely praised movie, another big deception. The plot is really strong and powerful but the whole movie is fairly boring. Not much of a development of the story except for the small change of view of the lawyer towards gays because at least ONE character must evolve…but yeah, i yawned a lot
- The Boondock Saints : i had wanted to watch this one for years, finally got a good copy. Two brothers accidentaly off two russian mobsters and walk away thanks to self defense and then decide they’re on a mission from god to rid boston of evil men while being chased by an FBI agent (Willem Dafoe). Pretty good, i get the “cult” following though i don’t join it. All around over the top action flick, shitty jokes that are actually funny, LOTS of screaming nonsense, cliches all around, more bible quotes than the whole H8000 ever came up with…but there’s something to it that really makes it nice and pleasant. Will watch again
- The Boondock Saints 2 : well, the apple fell far from the tree. It overplays the comedy/over-the-top aspect of the first one, Julia Benz character is annoying as hell (but she’s WAY hotter than ever with a few pounds on her), the story is fairly weak and a strong sense of deja vu keeps popping it…but it’s just annoying and not enjoyable as the first one wasThere’s lots of cool material about the new season on the Sons of Anarchy Facebook page. Very siked to see new episodes. Hoping for some good times too though, not too much drama again…
I’ll see if I can find some time to react to your post Toussaint, but first I have to get this out of my system:
The Dark Knight Rises. “Holy mistaken identity” (holy shit). Loved every second of it.

Walked out of the cinema around 21:00 or something and I’m still (almost 3 hours later) full of it… So damn good.
SpoilerRobin being Robin at that age doesn’t make much sense in comparison with the comics (as far as I read them), but that didn’t bother me for a second. Even the fact that apparently everyone seems to know that Bruce Wayne is Batman is fine by me haha.Loved the “Ah so that’s how that feels” line. Scarecrow’s court. Gordon is a hero. Everything…
Well…i think Batman Begins was a first step into rebooting the saga that both appealed to batman fans and the more general audience while The Dark Knight was a movie totally enjoyable by people who never really knew much about batman yet not really a batman movie, thus the huge commercial success amongst all demographics (and i’m saying that as a die hard TDK fan).
SpoilerAs for robin…i don’t really care about this non-issue since it’s almost an easter egg at the very end of the film.
There aren’t much people aware of batman’s true identity : alfred and fox both knew from the beginning, bane knows because he was a member of the league of shadows, same goes for talia, selina kyle learned it when he got his ass kicked by bane and blake got the idea and confronted wayne about it, who didn’t deny it (which is actually pretty much the way Tim Drake, the 3rd robin, got to become Robin)….that doesn’t make THAT much people.
And i was hugely pleased that marion cotillard turned out to be Talia and i stupidely did NOT see it coming even though i really should have. It really reinforces my opinion that this movie is much more Batman (as a comic books character) directed movie than TDK was…and the bad feeling i have about journalists’ reviews of the movie who’ll probably write it off as a cheap twist instead of as an awesome reference to the comic books (and the first movie too). The whole “occupied gotham” part is really awesome and totally blew me out. Nothing in the trailers or the promotion made any mention of this huge part of the movie that no one expected which is awesome in its own.
The fact that the scarecrow preside the tribunal is indeed awesome and the “Ah so that’s how that feels” is indeed great and one of the very few funny parts of the movie which is insanely dark.
so yeah, awesome movie. I had excessive hopes for it and was going in with a “get ready to be disappointed” state of mind (partly due to early reviews) and was blown away.
I’ll fight anyone who disagreesI don’t agree with you on TDK not being a Batman movie, but who cares ;)
SpoilerI didn’t get to a third Robin in the comics yet, that might explain it. But like I said, not annoyed at all. It works like this for these movies. As for not that much people? You forgot all the bad guys present when Bane confronts Batman and Gordon amongst others. But in the early comics Alfred is the only person knowing. So coming from that, it seems like a lot of people know he’s Batman now ;) But once again, no problem.
I pretty much saw everything coming aside from that twist indeed. That was great.
Where I love the origin stuff in Batman Begins, the darkness / hardness of The Dark Knight this one, at moments, moved me. Both in a negative way (at some point everything seemed to go wrong) when he’s cracked and you start to hate Bane’s gut haha but also in the moments between Alfred and Bruce.
The ending was maybe spelled out a bit too much, but I loved it.
I can’t wait to see it again.
i might i overstated things a bit, but TDK could have worked and been a great movie with any vigilante-type hero instead of batman
Ah like that. Yes, the first and the third movie are more personal.
According to Christopher Nolan these are the themes to the movies:
Batman Begins: Fear
The Dark Knight: Chaos
The Dark Knight Rises: HopeFinally started s2 of Breaking bad. I watched the first four episodes and it’s epic allready! Love that serie!
The Raven. Very good idea (serial killer in the time of edgar allen poe starts using his work as inspiration, poe is recruited by the police to teack down the killer), somewhat poorly executed. Just a basic (and not very exciting or complex) police procedial with poe tagged on. Somewhat of a scooby-doo ending that left me rather cold. John Cusack owns the character though and the movie looks awesome. Good for a rainy sunday, entertaining but nothing special.
