So what’s everybody watching? At home or at the cinema?

I’ve got tickets for Transformers 3D this Tuesday. I’m not expecting much from the movie, but I at least hope I’ll be seeing some proper 3D stuff this time.

Any tips on recent movies / TV shows?

I hope this one will be good:

I saw the new Harry Potter last week, a worthy end to the series imo.

Watched Punch-Drunk Love last night. Atypical hollywood film in terms of cinematography and screenplay. I would have really liked it if Adam Sandler had not been cast for the lead role, fuck, he’s annoying.

Haven’t checked out any new TV shows since Game of Thrones ended. I have been catching up on my anime shows though. So far I’ve finished Psalm of Planetes: Eureka 7, Xam’d: Lost Memories, and High School of the Dead. Right now I’m working my way through Kimi Ni Todoke.

I really don’t like Harry Potter or Lords Of The Rings (although I’m going to make an attempt to watch those sometime soon, I’ll probably quit halfway the first movie again).

As for Adam Sandler, everyone seems to hate the fellow, but I can’t say I do.

Game Of Thrones was great. Not my kinda scenery, but for some reason I kept watching. Good stuff.

I can’t wait for the final season of Entourage (you gotta love Ari Gold!) and new seasons of Dexter, Mad Men, The Office (really curious how that’s going to be without Steve Carell), Peep Show (is there a new season coming?), Fringe (poor man’s X-Files, but still good), Wie Is De Mol? (The Mole) and the shitload of other series I forget now.

Anime isn’t my kinda thing either. I’ll stick to Disney (Donald Duck!) and Pixar ;)

In the meanwhile I’ll keep myself busy with X-Files boxset.

Watched the first episode of the new Entourage season earlier this evening. Good to have them back but such a shame it’s going to be the last season.

    Started with “The Pacific”…

I expected a lot of The Pacific (because of Band Of Brothers), but that show was huge letdown. I just didn’t get into the characters, the plot. Maybe if you watch them all back to back it’s better, but I expected a lot more of it.

Yeah, I have the same problem… I watched until episode 5 and I think they are following a lot (to many) of different characters. With Band Of Brothers you had a “connection” with Winters.

    But… a huge fan of the Intro/Theme!

Oh and I saw “Super” yesterday.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1512235/

A bit like Kick-Ass, but different enough if you ask me. Bloodier than I expected too ;)

    #1035 Quote

Was opening this topic to recommend Super. Brilliant film if you ask me, and besides the basic premise, not like Kick-Ass at all.

Cartoony but realistic, hilarious but sour and somewhat depressing.

Best pitch black comedy I saw in a really long time.

Also saw Submarine this week (not to be confused with Submarino).

The story about a pretentious emo 15 year old (he had a ‘hat’ phase) taking his first steps on the path of love while attempting to stop his parents marriage from falling apart is nothing special, but the way debuting director Richard Ayoade (Moss form The IT-Crowd) films it makes it very worthwhile.

Kind of like Amelie filmed by Wes Anderson with some Michel Gondry dreamyness thrown in. The decor of Wales in the 1980′s works extemely well and gives us some pretty pictures.

A nice, funny, quirky, heart felt movie. Recommended.

Very pleasing soundtrack with original songs by Alex Turner (The Arctic Monkeys) as well.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1440292

(Don’t let the fact Ben Stiller produced it put you off. It’s absolutely not ‘his’ kind of movie).

One of your post ended up being classified as spam Rik, don’t know why. Fixed it now though ;)

And I totally agree with you on Super. And on Submarine by the way.

So I just got back from Transformers. Yes it’s over the top, yes it’s far from the the best movie ever made or whatever, but I loved it. I probably would like it a lot less if I didn’t see it on the big screen, but the 3D stuff was great and the 2,5 hours passed by in a heartbeat.

I had the same with the transformers, never seen the previous 2 movies, but this one killed it in 3D. Also really enjoyed all the little jokes and movie references.

Just watched a couple of episodes of the X-Files (season 4) again, so good. I have yet to find a show that’s better than the X-Files (especially considering it ran for 9 seasons!).

Fuck yeah!! The X-files! I have the complete boxset at home.
First time I watched that serie, I was just a little boy. Scully <3 :)

I cant remember how many times I planned this fella:

Also a good serie is called "Alias". (5 seasons)

    As for that boxset:

This book is pretty cool too:

    twitpic.com/1s4n82

I checked out Millenium for the first time this year (or was it last year?), from the same makers, pretty good, but no X-Files. Might give Alias a try too, heard that name a bunch of times already.

I had the PC version of that game by the way.

X-files are so cool! But during season six the mood of the serie is changing a bit. It’s sunnier (both in looks and in mood). That’s not a good change, if you ask me.

Just watched Caligula together with my cousin, the “what-the-fuck-counter” went throught the roof. What seen cannot be unseen. Etc.

As for TV-shows go, I began watching the second season of IT Crowd. Which I love. And as soon I come back from vacation I’m gonna revisit It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. I’m so looking forward to it.

Going to check super and submarine!

I’m watching season 2 of How I met your mother, but I don’t think I can watch all seasons, if he isn’t going to meet his mother in the next new season (season 7?)…

Does anyone have some good tips for documentaries? (I was really impressed by earthlings and Food Inc. ) I just saw the cove for the second time, this time with my girlfriend… stil really Gripping!

From what I’ve been told Blue Gold is a pretty good documentary

This morning I put about 20 documentaries about Egypt in my download que. Aside from WOII I think that’s gotta be my favorite period in history.

The Cove was really good, will check out Blue Gold and those others you mentioned later.

I watched The Devil’s Rock last night. For a movie about Nazi’s summoming a she-demon to help win the war on the eve of D-Day, it actually wasn’t that bad. More serious than you’d expect and pretty dialogue heavy. Fortunately, the acting was good and the guy playing the nazi didn’t ham it up ‘Allo ‘Allo style. It did get a little too talky at times and it could have done with some more demon action (there is lot’s of gore, but it’s all aftermath. Most of the killing already has happened when we enter the story).

Not good enough to strongly recommend, but if you have 80 minutes to kill you could do far worse.

The chick playing the demon is EXTREMELY sexy, both in out of prostethics and make up.

So I’m always years late with good television shows etc. Question: should I go and watch The Wire or stick with reading books at night?

Did anyone see Sherlock (the 2010 TV series?)

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1475582/

I thought it would suck, but I happened to drop right into an episode on TV and loved it. It’s kinda strange (Sherlock Holmes in this day and age), but then again it totally works.

Love the arrogance of Holmes and the role of Watson is played pretty well by Martin Freeman (Tim in The Office UK).

I’ve seen two episodes and I agree with you: it just works out right. I’m really curious as to how Moriarty is going to be portrayed (is he in the series already?).

Yes, he was in yesterday’s episode (NED1 is showing the series this month).

Yeah I liked that one too!

Not going to be amongst my favorite movies ever, but I liked the idea!

    #1476 Quote

    Yesterday I watched

for I think the 4th time (my girlfriend hadn’t seen it yet).

I love this movie to death and was blown away by it once again. This movie is so different from anything else I’ve ever seen by look and atmosphere, the lighting, music and sounddesign are so perfect and the way the story is told, almost casually, with an eloborate universe explained through simple and natural dialogue is brilliant.

Now that I’ve watched it several times, I do see that some of the production values and acting are a bit shaky here and there, but there is so much creativity, both visually and story wise, I gladly overlook that.

The Incubi are probably the scariest creatures in a movie ever.

If you haven’t seen this dreamy, gripping indie gem yet, I highly recommend it.

I watched it when you originally tipped it on Asice a year ago or something? I think I liked it, but I can’t remember too much from it, so I guess it made a lot less of an impact on me ;)

Just watched 2 X-Files episodes again. Repeating myself, but best series ever!

haha yes! as a matter of fact, a friend of mine started a record label around 2002 called “Truffle Shuffle Records”. The “Truffle Shuffle” is the dance Chunk does with his belly in The Goonies.
