)Please keep it in English on these forums.
I’m not a big fan of Joomla (the script you’re using) or the lay-out and I don’t really see the need for a site like that (sorry!)… Aside from that it’s cool that it’s both in English and Dutch. Maybe add a search function? (not that needed with the current amount of bands, but when the archive grows…)
And if you want to do something that really adds some value to the current sites that are around -> Do a proper (well maintained) Dutch showlist!
Either way, good luck with the project!
The idea is cool, but it definitly needs a better looking interface.
I like the idea of this site. It reminds a bit of metal-archives.com. I don’t like the interface and layout of the site though. I would recommend working on that a bit. And why limit it to Dutch bands?
I’m not an expert in flashy html stuff and I’m very happy I managed to come up with this using joomla, so for the meantime, this is the layout. :P
Currently there is no site out there that brings Dutch bands together, where you can find easy information about a band and listen to their music. Unless you already know the name of the band you’re looking for.
Lyrics for Dutch bands are also very hard if not impossible to find online, apart from bands who put them on their own site.
Punx.nl already has a good and well-maintained showlist.
I’ve set the limited to Dutch bands to start with because there are a great many Dutch bands out there, and I want to keep it nice and clear to start with.
When this site is up and running like I would like it to, I can always start branching out to neighbouring countries.
Thanks! Now I don’t have to check asice.net , punx.nl and swnk.org. Saves me a shitload of time. Really love the lay-out. Simple yet very organic in a Gigeresque way.
Dutchpunk now carries over 40 band pages and is starting to take shape nicely.
You can also keep up to date of all new additions at http://www.facebook.com/dutchpunk.nl
But which band should be added as soon as possible according to you?
a couple I’m still missing:
Galbak, Gascoigne, Nothing done, Union town, Said and done,Like I said, I don’t see the point in pages like this (nothing personal Patrick), so please don’t put Said And Done on there
We have enough pages with outdated information as it is. We’ll just stick to our own page and Facebook/Twitter.
Thanks Dennis!
And, Pim, I won’t if you don’t want to, so don’t worry.
But the point of the page is just that you only stick your own page, and here’s why: I have never heard of Said and Done. Most likely because I have never been to one of your shows. I don’t know your band’s name, so there’s no way I will stumble onto your Facebook page unless by accident. Result: I’m missing out on a band I could really like. And that’s the problem with most Dutch bands I think.
I have discovered quite a few great bands in the short time I’ve been busy with the site, and I already know of two local promoters who use the site to look for bands when they need a support act.
As for outdated information, that’s all up to the band. It’s supposed to be a way of promoting yourself after all.
But if you update Facebook, I will most likely update Dutchpunk.Well, that was my promotional speech, I promise I won’t do it too often ;)
Do it as often as you want, no problem ;)
The fact you never heard about us might have to do with the fact that we haven’t been playing for more than a year now, writing a new record ;) (And the fact we might not be that good / not your kinda thing / idiots ;))
And as for updating Facebook means updating Dutchpunk? For real? Are you going to keep up with all the bands and update their entries when they post news? That might be do-able with a maximum of 40 bands… But that’s going to get A LOT of work real quick ;) Good luck with that!
I just don’t see the added value of a site listing Dutch bands at all. But hey, you don’t have to sell it to me ;) Like I said, good luck with the project.
Well, for now, updating means either adding an album/EP/7″/player, or updating band information. That’s quite easily done. Also, when the site has become sort of established, I hope more bands will let me know when something needs to be added or changed.
Dennis: Do you know if Galbak, Gascoigne, Nothing done and Union town are all still active?
All of them are on myspace, but their official sites have all been taken down, and Union Town’s FB hasn’t been updated for a long time.Gascoigne, Nothing Done & Union Town are all done.
I would have loved to hear another Union Town record.
Well, that’s crap. I really enjoyed their myspace songs.
Thanks for clearing that up!
Yeah, it’s a shame Union town quit. Every release was better than the one before!
I’m not really sure about the status of Galbak. They’re doing a show every now and then (although I haven’t heard anything from them for at least a year or so)… That’s all I know. Check out Kabinet of the living dead if you can find it somewhere. Good fun listening to that stuff!
